Therapy may be new to you or maybe you have had past experiences that make you uncertain of therapy or maybe you have not searched for your own provider before. Here are some questions and answers that will help you navigate this process with ease.
I’ve been to therapy before, but it didn’t work. What makes you different from other therapist I’ve been to?
That is a great question! Research supports that the intangible piece for healing to occur is the relationship between the client and the therapist. It is that spark of genuine connection that we have with some people. Each therapist is a unique person too with their own style, vibe, professional and personal experiences.
Read my story area to see if I seem like the right fit for you.
What can I expect from the 15 minute phone consult?
The purpose of the phone phone consultation is to help me get a clear sense of what you are needing and looking for. It is also your opportunity to ask me questions to see if I am the right fit for you.
If everything seems like a good fit then we will get you scheduled for your first appointment. You will receive an email with the intake paperwork to be completed through the client portal prior to our first session together. This system is an encrypted electronic medical record software so your information is safe and protected.
What happens during the first session?
I will prepare for our first session by reviewing your initial intake paperwork that you completed online. I will have questions to jumpstart the conversation and we will get deeper into your story, your goals for counseling and my approach to counseling. All while we are both getting to know each other so that you can decide if I am the therapist for you.
How often will we meet?
Expect to meet weekly and then as therapy progress and as things start to change for you, we may decide together that less frequently is the best fit for you.
What is the cancellation policy?
I ask for a 24 hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. If you no show a session you will be charged a full session fee.
How much does therapy cost?
I charge $130 for a 50 minute session. This fee can be paid at the end of your session with cash or check or paid through the client portal with any debit or credit card.
That’s expensive! Do you offer a sliding scale?
No I do not, here is why. Therapy is an investment in yourself, something to help you live your best life just like we invest in things like the gym for our physical wellness. I understand that not everyone will be able to work with me due to the cost and I am happy to refer you to other providers or agencies in the area.
Here is a great tool to show you what a fair therapy cost is and you will see my fee is still well below that. Check out Health Care Blue Print type in your zip code and search individual psychotherapy 45 minutes.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, I am now accepting Blue Cross Blue Shield, keep in mind your rate may be higher based on if you have met your deductible for the year or not.
If you have another insurance provider I do offer a monthly statement of service (super bill) that you can file with your insurance for reimbursement if you choose to do so. There is also a great app to help you do this called Better app.
